Breakfast The Northern Broads are not as good for sailing as the Southern Broads due to number of trees that line the riverbank. That being said the scenery is wonderful, and there is more to see and do. We sailed from Potter to Barton Broad, which as it happens is where I learnt to sail. The wind was again perfect and we had a fantastic time zipping back and forth across the Broad. I had planned to have lunch at the Barton Angler, but it was closed so we ended up at the White Horse. I really recommend this pub, food and beer were outstanding as were the staff. The owner looks like he just stepped off the cover of Jethro Tull’s, “too old to Rock and Roll”. The pub is just a short walk from the Staithe and is very much worth the visit. Somehow we ended up spending the night at Neatishead. While at the Staithe we topped off the water tank, unfortunately Lizzie decided that she wanted to have a look at the cap to the water tank – this ended up in the water. Spiffing. So one of my clean socks, in fact my last clean sock I think was used as a temporary stopper. While preparing for dinner I was startled to hear a sack of wet cement being dropped in the well of the boat, I was even more startled to find out that it was Bonnie who had tripped on the cockpit combing and fallen badly in the well. Luckily she wasn’t badly hurt but did pick up a number of interesting bruises. Dinner was not a great success – rather soggy omelets, but it did result in Lizzie getting off the hook for dropping the water cap in the river as Bonnie managed to get rid of the cheese grater along with the dishwater. Now I should explain that the kitchen sink on a Broads yacht can only be described as microscopic. But they do provide you with another plastic bowl to help with the washing up. Although I have been on holidays when the bowl was used for other purposes, but that’s another story. We only had the boat hired for a week and it was sue to be returned the next day. Sadly one of the rail unions had decided to go on strike which would have made our trip back impossible. So I called the boat yard and asked if I could keep the boat for an extra day – No problem – what a great boatyard!
